A probe style BMS isn't really a management system at all - it is a system for keeping the operator informed. The simplest case of a probe type system is the human who goes around manually checking battery voltages and specific gravities. A somewhat more sophisticated version is a network of modules that report back battery voltages to a display or even a computer system.
